This is something different that you just don't get to see that often. We were here at the beginning of the season & were told that as the summer progressed there would be more & more bats emerging. When they started coming out, it was just a trickle. Then, looked like a tornado as they circled out of the tunnel... More

You may want to call ahead and check....the bats virtually disappear before the first cold front so you don't want to miss them. In the late Fall, there are so many bats......you cannot image what a neat experience this is for visitors of all ages. Take a meal and drinks with you and enjoy while you set and wait for... More

Whether you are a bat lover or a nature lover or just want something fun, easy, cheap (free) to do with the kids - you need to experience this amazing sight. The drive from anyplace is serene and beautiful. Depending on the exact time you go, watch for fresh vegetable and fruit stands. Stop and get some snacks and drinks... More

We make this trip at least once a summer. Actually we visited the old tunnel site long before it was a park. Now with the docents and seating areas it is more accessible for everyone. We find that June is often a little too early (moms are birthing elsewhere). So we usually go in July or August. Very hot but... More

This park is about 10 miles out of Fredericksburg. It's a fun drive with lots to see on the way. Several historic buildings and compounds will come into your field of view as you go. The park itself is very nice. It's rocky and has steep inclines, so wear your tennis shoes. The bats were not there this time of... More

Nature at its finest. A show that only the Creator could produce. The docents are very knowledgable and informative.

Beautiful State Park area.....history of the old tunnel is well explained when you do the tour which is well worth the $5 fee. Arrive early for a seat. You can bring your camera but do NOT use a flash...you will see millions of bats emerge out of tunnel, swirl around (no really!) and then take off to fly around the... More

Pay the $5 to go down as low as you can to view the bats leaving the tunnel/cave at dusk. Such an amazing thing to see. Now it does get pretty stinky as the bats spin around coming out of the tunnel but just an unbelievable sight to see a million bats! Great experience.

If you want to experience a massive bat emergence then this is the place to visit. I had seen with my own eyes, hundreds of thousands of bats going out for their evening bug hunt. They almost look like a giant black tornado right in front of your eyes.

This is worth the trip, you will see millions of bats come out of the tunnel. Make sure you go and see this, you can even see the bats before they come out of the tunnel.
