You can spend several hours at the museum. There is a lot of history about the area and the Native Americans that once lived there. We stopped here to see the gift shop and almost didn't bother going into the museum area. It turned out there is an outdoor area behind the building with historic old houses, a church, and barn to see. Happened to stop here and it turned out to be the highlight of our trip. Learned a lot, bought a little and got a referral for an awesome scenic ride and walk.

This museum is not large but full of information about Townsend and the Smokies. Focus is on the early pioneer days and is truly enjoyable. There are at times of the year so good concerts, etc that are very good and affordable. This is a fairly new attraction to Townsend and a very welcome addition.

They started Friday night concerts and they are good. They have a very beautiful amphitheater. Five doolars for a seat bring your own lawn chair.

This place provides lots of good information about Cades Cove. There's a film you can watch and then a seft guided tour you can wander through at your own pace. This museum has a larger amount to see and do. During the year they had activities for members and (non-members for a fee). We enjoyed the music festival they had last summer.
