Not only an important cultural focal point for the city of Nashville, it is also a significant architectural structure, occupying one of Nashville’s great historic landmarks, the former main post office. Constructed from 1933 to 1934 under the direction of the local architectural firm of Marr & Holman, it displays both of the most distinctive architectural styles of the period: Classicism and Art Deco. « less

A cold and rainy Saturday afternoon prompted my husband and I to seek an indoor activity. We were fortunate the Rembrandt and Dutch Masters of the Golden Age, and Art of Ancient Americas were on exhibit. Both well organized, excellent historical content, and fine examples well researched. We were surprised to find this gem in the middle of CW music... More

I lived in Nashville in the 80's and that was the last time I visited this building; when it was still the main post office. Don't let that deter you from a visit, as the building itself is a magnificent example of Art Deco design. I am appreciative that the Frist family invested in this structure and gave it new... More

Located in the old Main Post Office in downtown Nashville, the Frist Center for Visual Arts features ever changing presentations of a wide variety of the Arts. The building itself is a beautiful structure worthy of a closer look and not just as a place to house art displays. The Frist is located within blocks of Lower Broadway with all... More

An old post office building is not a good atmosphere to view art. As soon as I enter this so called art museum, I'm ready to leave. Too bad Nashville does not have a better venue to show art exhibits.

The building, a former post office facility, is a beautiful art deco structure. It's worth a visit just to see the building. That much is free (except for parking). To visit the actual exhibits will cost an entry fee (or you can join and become a member). I saw the Rembrandt exhibit--in fact it only includes two actual Rembrandt's, but... More

Maybe I'm a bit jaded being on the East Coast, where the Smithsonian museums are free and the pay museums in Boston and NY are amazing, but I wasn't super impressed. I wasn't disappointed, but not impressed either. The building is huge, which leads you to believe that there must be a lot of exhibits. There weren't, though. Again, I... More

Go here for the art as well as the amazing post office building this is housed in. The building is an art deco building that is amazing to see in itself.

There is a visiting Dutch Art of the Golden Age exhibition at the Frist until May 18, 2013. It is from the Detroit Institute of Art. Well worth the visit. Outstanding collection. The Frist is housed in a former US Post Office building and is in art deco style.

Great display! Glorious pieces. Knowledgeable tour guide. My wife and I spent a rainy, cold Sunday afternoon there March 24, 2013. We were attracted by the large intriguing piece we had seen on the back of the property as we walked from the Union Station hotel to the Bridgestone Arena. Sunday hours 1 to 5:30, Cafe opens at noon. Important... More
