Tough to find, but it is worth looking for. Located between Dalmally and Lochawe, there are no signs to point you in the right direction, just a small car park and dirt road. When you pull into the car park, you need to cross the railway line and you'll see the castle along a dirt (and sometimes mud sodden) track...

A little hard to find, but worth the search, and the walk to the castle is lovely. Great views of Loch Awe from the top of the castle.
Visited the castle and had the added bonus of seeing an osprey catch a salmon! Stunning views despite the Loch being well down on water. Well worth the journey from our hotel in Luss.
The ruined state adds to the atmosphere. You can let your imagination run wild. A fantastic place to take children to bring history alive.
Whole heartedly agree with all the excellent comments. Found this completely by chance which added to the pleasure. Recommend anybody travelling near here to make a detour to see this place.
A nice little castle on the stunning shores of Loch Awe. The views are great, and the castle itself is still in great shape, even though it is partially in ruins.
My wife and I (plus our dog) enjoyed a weekend at a nearby Log Cabin on the Dalmally / Portsonachan B840 road.

No gimicks, no tacky tourist shop, just a belter of a ruined castle. Go see it for yourself. Wear comfy shoes/wellies mind!
It is literally off the shortbread box as a view, almost magical, especially when there is is slight mist on the loch.
