This thing was built because some guy named Sid with a big ego wanted to get his name associated with something in Rapid City. In the end, it is a super ugly building and big disgrace to the history of the Black Hills. It does do justice to Natives, white-settlers, early-American military, or dinosaurs. Also, this museum tries/tried to steal... More

The Journey museum is owned by the city of Rapid City, and while it is an impressive building, the exhibits were decidedly underwhelming. The beautiful theater hosts a film with striking cinematography of the Black Hills, but the equipment is obviously not up to the task. The images are blurred and hard to see - definitely needs an upgrade. The... More

Located in downtown Rapid City, the Journey Museum is a must for anyone coming to the area. Amazing collections that continue to change, from the dinosaur era to the Rapid City Flood disaster in 1972, to Native American influence and contributions to the area. The gift shop provides visitors with unlimited opportunity to find just the right treasure at just... More

Great museum close to downtown and the convention center. There are highlights of the settlement of the region. Perhaps the best part of the museum is the collection of Native American artifacts. Great for all ages, and expect to visit for at least three hours.

My last stop before leaving South Dakota in September was the Journey Museum. I had four hours to explore the museum before my flight home and wish I had more time. It was a very entertaining and informative experience. A visitor to this museum, literally, goes on a journey that reveals the unique geology and rich native cultures in the... More

The native American artifacts and installations are really worth the cost of admission. The movie you watch upon entering is pretty dumb, though. And they don't have a great gift shop.

We enjoyed all of the history and artifacts from around the area. Like others had suggested, we went at the beginning of our stay in Rapid City and was glad we did. We didn't have children with us, but it had a lot of interaction areas (especially in the dinosaur exhibit area).

It had lots of information about the area if you are interested. We went because it was cold and we didn't have much to do. It is just like any other musuem.
