Park your car at the Visitors Center and get a Heritage Passport. Walk over to the museum and pick up some information about Charleston. We enjoyed sections on fashion, rice production, civil war and Robert Smalls.

A very large and comprehensive museum. It is primarily geared toward adults but covers the history of Charleston in an easy to follow and understand flow. I highly recommend it for anyone visiting Charleston for the first time and wanted to learn about the city. It is conveniently located across the street from the city's visitor center so you can...

One of the best city museums I have visited. Plenty to see and experience. For the history buffs, can't be beat. I was pleasantly surprised by the breadth of the displays. the clothing, tools, weaponry, historical figures and it goes on and on...... and there is even a natural history museum within. The museum is across the street from the visitors center and should be the second stop (after the VC) on any first-time trip to Charleston. The attractive and informative exhibits provide a good historical background for seeing other things in Charleston, such as historic homes, Ft Sumter, and especially the plantations. History buffs will find a lot to occupy their...

This museum was very interesting. It Showed all aspects of life through presentations and displays. Even historical animals had a place within these walls. We spent several hours going through the many sections and luckily there were benches to rest on intermingled between exhibitions. Glad we took the time to go through it.
