I'd recommend visiting when school's out as it's a popular field trip destination. Even with groups of younger visitors about, it's worth the trip. You can learn about the importance of the area during the Seven Years' War. However, if you're frightened by realistic mannequins, you might want to bypass this.

Great place to learn about the history of the area and the French and Indian war. Terrific place for children to learn some history.

The Fort Ligonier Association has done a fantastic job restoring the fort to exactly the way it was over 200 years ago. The buildings and fence lines have been completely restored to the way they were when occupied by British soldiers. Entry onto the grounds is through a museum that contains many artifacts from the past. You can spend a... More

My husband, the history buff -- especially 18th C American history -- loved it. He was enchanted with Washington's pistol. The museum is worth a visit, for sure.

The fort is staged with daily life scenes that would have taken place at the time. Grounds and buildings are meticulously kept, and preserved. Surrounding town and area filled with sights and restaurants, and shops.

The museum/gift shop was very educational and put a new perspective on how this little frontier outpost impacted a war that was being waged on a world scale! They have volunteer re-enactors on the anniversary of the battle (second full weekend in October) which was the highlight of my visit.

Big enough to be impressive, but not so big to make it difficult to see with kids. There is the outdoor Fort area were there are reconstructions of the original fort buildings and barricades. Dioramas and displays depicting the life and times. Indoors is the beautifully curated museum featuring a pair of Washington's pistols. It is well worth the trip.... More

What a treat! This detailed reconstruction of a British outpost during the French and Indian War is a delight to the eyes and contains a wealth of information. We enjoyed roaming the installation and learning something new with every step. The official guidebook is detailed an informative. The museum could serve as a model to local or site specific history... More
