Harrisburg is my hometown and my husband and I visited the National Civil War Museum located in Reservoir Park during a recent visit. We spent more than 2 hours at the museum watching videos, reading a wealth of information covering all aspects of the war and observing hundreds of artifacts in the exhibits. The museum is on a hill and... More

Went here on a community free day. The grounds and the building are beautiful. Our 9 year old son had a great time exploring the museum and being "enlisted" into the union army with a group of kids on the lawn. We ate delicious chicken fingers and fries on the patio and italian ice later in the day (mine was... More

Sitting atop a hill at Reservoir Park in Harrisburg, the view at the museum is engaging. The contents of the museum itself offer many insights into both sides of the war between the states. Artifacts and displays abound. I particularly enjoyed the many "firsts" that came about during the war...a side of the conflict I never thought much about. My... More

Great museum. Very nicely done. Odd though that its layed out right to left. Opposite of how you normally read. Otherwise a must see if visit Harrisburg.

This museum shows the causes leading to the Civil War on both sides of the conflict in an impartial way. It follows people from before the war to after and how if affected men and women in ways we do not normally think about. You also learn about some battles and the Fort Sumter display was almost like being there... More

Really liked video presentation of the same characters and their experiences and opinions as the war progressed. It gave a realistic and personal perspective of the effects of the war from different viewpoints- unlike anything I'd ever experienced in a museum before. That along with the displays and artifacts made this one of the high points on my trip to... More

I truly enjoyed my visit to the NCWM. The staff was friendly and very helpful. The exibits were full of information. I especially enjoyed the videos that followed different characters throughout the period before, during and after the war. This added a great personal touch to the exibits. I would recommend this to everyone.

Great find! Spent the week in Gettysburg and read about this museum. The 45-minute drive was well worth it. Lots of artifacts to see! Beautiful museum and easy to find. Seeing Lee's bible was pretty awesome... Would go back!

We had about an hour and a half to go through everything which I didn't feel was enough time. I could have listened for hours to the displays, read all the plaques, etc. I could have easily spent three or four hours there. The actual location and building are gorgeous as well. There were kids taking prom pictures overlooking the... More

I live very near the museum and go at least once a year. When friend's come to town it is always recommended. Plan at least two hours to tour. Make sure you stop at each video station to listen to the story. The first time I went, I did not take the time to listen at every stop and boy,... More
