We found this Interpretive Center in Stevenson, WA. Native American, logging, fishing, dam building, local culture, history and videos made a nice package. If you are a logging buff this is a great stop. A huge steam engine that is a century old will still turn over with the help of an electric motor. Watching it operate made my day...

This is a lively collection of artifacts, models, memorabilia and implements from the history of the Columbia River Gorge. The massive replica of a salmon-catching flywell contraption of the type that once dotted the river is worth the price of admission alone. Collection of Native American artifacts notable too. And who knew that the world's largest collection of Rosaries would...

Really enjoyed this stop. The View is amazing. The building rare in that one wouldn't expect to find something so beautiful and traditional seemingly in the middle of nowhere - at least when it was built. Be sure to stop here.
This was the second time we stopped. Last time was at the end of summer...after the lavender crop had been harvested. Was an OK stop. This time we timed our stop while the lavender was in full bloom...amazing!! A sea of lavender snuggled in between views of two snow capped mountains! Cut our own lavender bunch...Huge bunch for $3.00!!
This three story Intrep Center is not short on exhibits. It's run very efficiently.
We initially came with a group and hubs came next to me and told me in a whisper..."we are coming back when we don't have an hour time limit."
They have, on the first floor a mezzanine that runs whenever people go in and sit down....

We stopped here first. What a good idea. They had maps and info that was not in my guidebooks.
Well worth the stop. When it rains in the gorge it really rains. This is the place to avoid the rain or dry out. See the exhibits enjoy the on site cafe and remember the beauty of the day.
Right off the Interstate. This was a very pleasant visit. I'm very interested in the history of Oregon particularly the areas close to Northeast Oregon. Very informative and well set out. History just flowed. Enjoy!
This museum is a gem. The displays on local history and economics are worth the stop alone. There is also a film on the geology and formation of the gorge.
