The Gardens and Grounds of... more » Owner description: Herstmonceux is renowned for its magnificent moated castle, set in beautiful parkland and superb Elizabethan gardens. The Gardens and Grounds of Herstmonceux Castle embodies the history of medieval England and the romance of renaissance Europe. Your experience begins as you make your way through the grounds and the castle breaks into view. The castle gardens and grounds are home to a staggering variety of flora and fauna with wild orchids, formal rose gardens, Canada geese and resident peacock all adding to the charm of such an individual location. Various events take place throughout the year including theatre productions, operatic performances and most famously the Medieval Festival. Castle tours are provided but because the castle operates as an International Study Centre we advise visitors to call in advance to avoid disappointment.

The gardens looked really lovely . Very well kept . There were tulips with fading daffs. The usual spring shrubs and trees. Only a few blue bells to be seen . The peacocks were so beautiful. “Good for families”

Good place to visit for families especially when they have event days, although then very crowded. Have been several times and will probably take my grand daughter in the summer holidays.

“The splendid BRICK castle and current UK observatory”

WE visited the castle and was given a guided tour of the inside by a very jovial/knowledgeable guide. We then went onto the the Observatory, very very interesting, well worth the visit

Science Centre at entrance much better value. Great for children, kept ours amused for nearly a whole day. Best to take a picnic lunch.

“Excellent when Medieval events are on.”

A really good day out on a sunny day. A step back in time with smells of bonfires, tents and weapons with all the drama of a medieval village. Prices are a little steep but what isn't anymore. Recomend taking a picnic and getting there early.

We went to the Medieval extravaganza over the August Bank Holiday weekend - impressive with hundreds and hundreds of people in different costumes - still a little pricey at £19 per adult and +£10 for children. Hi Neil P We are really glad you enjoyed yourself. The Gardens and Grounds of Herstmonceux Castle charge £6 for a standard adult entrance but also provide concessions and a season ticket for a standard adult is only £26 for the whole season. More

The festival itself was fun and engaging. tI was obvious that weather had affected the numbers of people attending, but held up well on bank holiday Monday. Devilstick Pete was brilliant for adults and children alike. However I would advise organisers to audit the standards of catering suppliers more carefully.
