We didn't know what to expect and I have to say we were hesitant about going here, especially when the entrance fee was $18 per adult. The road up the mountain is well-maintained and there are several places to stop for either scenic photos or a picnic in the shade. There is a small museum/gift shop/cafe about halfway up the... My kids and husband loved the swinging bridge. I am terrified of heights so it was a little scary walking on the bridge but I did it. There are lots of places to take pictures with a great view. Would definitely do it again.

Great place to visit. The history, animals in their natural habitat and the view from the bridge was AWESOME!! The homemade fudge was a favorite with my daughter and I. The drive was really nice with the scenic views of the woods and river. We are looking forward to another visit in the fall when the leaves begin to change.... More

While the entrance fee to Grandfather Mountain is a bit excessive, the hike to the peaks is extremely enjoyable. The hike features cables across rock faces, ladders up steep rocky inclines, rock scrabbling up a small ravine, and great views (when not obstructed by the omnipresent clouds). Avid hikers will thoroughly enjoy the trail and will want to start from... More

Really like the view from Linville Peak after the Mile High Bridge and Grandfather Trail was excellent and the hiking trail were in good condition, cables and ladders were well-maintained. I didn't have much time to spend there but I really want to do a hike there. Not knowing what to expect I was surprised to find that the hike... More

We loved stopping here. I was a little upset with the cost but that was over as soon as we put the cd in and headed up. The cd tour is a must. Without that we would have never enjoyed it as much as we did. It is informative and set at the right pace. Once we reached the top... More

Most Beautiful views. I have been coming to Grandfather Mountain since I was a child, now I am enjoying it with my children. My 14 year old son absolutely loved walking the Grandfather Trail with the ladders and ropes, it is a bit dangerous and I would not recommend it for inexperienced hikers without proper shoes or water and snacks.... Great attraction. It cost $18 per adult, which included a CD that told what you were seeing as you drive up the mountain. We went all the way to the top and walked across the Mile High Swinging Bridge. Luckily for my nerves, it was not very crowded. The hairpin curves on the drive as you get closer to the... More

great trip to the mountain just do not take US 221 if you are in any hurry since it is very windy and not going to let you get there in any hurry.

We spent four days on the Blue Ridge Parkway and Grandfather Mountain was recommended to us by an employee of the Little Switzerland Inn. I was very glad I asked her for recommendations as this was a great side trip. The small zoo was nice and the animals seem to have very good habitats - quite large. This can make... More
