As good as any other man made lake. Don't go on holidays. Too crowded. If you are wanting something rustic, make another choice. Quite developed area.
We visited the lake over our long weekend in NC. The lake was clean and beautiful. The homes around the lake were magnificent, and the residents and fellow boaters were friendly and accommodating. The only complaint is the lack of restroom facilities.
A few large parks with lots of grassy areas to view the lake from. It's not a long drive from Charlotte, which makes it a wonderful place to escape city life for a few hours. Enjoy the lake, and enjoy dinner in the area..
Lake Norman is a huge lake and really is best enjoyed from a boat. There are so many fingers on this lake, it would take weeks or months to explore. It's a great place for a picnic and peace and quiet overlooking the lake. Lakes are wonderful places of water. It has benches and tables laid out around and nice little pathways to walk around. Pretty area.
Lake Norman State Park has a couple hiking trails that are fun, especially the trail that follows the shore. Other than that, I don't know what is so special about Lake Norman. It would be much prettier to look at if it wasn't surrounded by highways and mansions. And there are not a whole lot of activities in this area... More

Huge lake, lots to see and do. Very pretty and picturesque, site of my wedding!
