We stopped here after visiting the caldera. We were directed to Captain John's by one of the tour guides. We regretted it, as the seafood was cold and rubbery and it was kind of just a cafeteria set up. We wished we had kept walking past as there were plenty of nice restaurants after that that had empty tables (because... More

quiet...considered a 'virgin' island since tourism has not overwhelmed it. 150 people live there & U will barely see them. I hiked & hiked and the summer flys drove me crazy!!--but back closer to the main village Mananolas it was finee... they have 1 bakery, 1 minimini mart...and one hotel LAKARO ROOMS owned by JIMMY & his wife--hight atop a... Take a bus ride from Fira, cost 1.60 euro each to Oia. Have drinks overlooking the caldera. A must do in Oia is watching the sunset. It attracts a fair crowd so be there early. It's heavenly.

There are quite a few steps up to Manolas, but it is so worth it. Cute streets, old unspoiled houses, excellent views, very pristine. It is like all the beautiful towns on the main island, but without all the touristy fake stuff.

....the little harbour is very pretty, but the walk along the beach to the restaurant was very rocky, but then it is volcanic! Restaurant was lovely and the view amazing. Staff are friendly. After lunch we went for a little walk along the shore and into some of the small shops there. We didn't go up the cliff to the... More

The little island of Thirasia was the final stop on our boat tour and the guide kept recommending this place called Captain John's. Because of that, just about everyone went to have lunch there leaving all the other establishments empty. Turned out the guide seemed to be somehow involved or had some arrangement with this particular restaurant. The food wasn't... More

Don't miss your stop in the land having lunch with all the tourists! Go to manolo village by donkey and if hungry you can have lunch at Panorama with a great view! It's worth the experience.

The best Taverna food on the island group. All home cooked, All fresh ingredients. Great welcome. Incredible views. Not expensive. If it had not required a boat and donkey to get there we would have gone every day!
