When the kids want to snowboard or go snow tubing this is a great place. It's close by and they are always making snow. I can sit inside and have something to drink while the kids have fun.
Good mountain for kids and adults to get their start. I highly recommend the Developmental Program for children's lessons. Lodge has live music on weekends but no alcoholic beverages.
It is a ski area in winter where young (and old) may learn to perfect their ski/board skills. Spring/summer/fall, camping, hiking are popular. It provides a great opportunity to enjoy nature, close to home.
My husband and I visited the Campgaw Mountain disc golf course yesterday and had a great time. The hiking (while finding our discs) was very nice, and good exercise. This is a small scale place, perfectly fine for school-related trips and families with younger children. Anyone with more advanced skiing skills should go elsewhere. Some biking and picnic areas in summer. Conveniently located near highway and Bergen County police and fireman training facility - you can hear the shooting 2 miles away.
Campgaw was great, had great time. Kids had great instructor: Tara O. Tip her often, she is a great teacher, and knows how to work with kids
I took my kids snow tubing and they charged $24 per child. For the low standards that u get it's expensive. They Don't have family tubes or double tubes.
Our 12 1/2 year old son wanted to go snow tubing. His younger brother wasn't so excited. We traveled about 35 minutes to get to Campgaw. We had a great time snowtubing here. We have been twice this season. The staff is friendly and patient. Especially with children that have special needs. I really recommend it. Buy your tickets in advance though, because they do sell out!
Nice place to learn skiing. My wife and son did ski for the first time there. The staff was very nice too. And it's very closed to Hoboken (45 minutes drive!).
