I find it incredible that this museum is free. My favorite painting was on the third floor and it is called the George Washington. The detail in this painting is stunning. The museum has a very nice collection and rivals the one I visited in Chicago. My only complaint is that there is little parking, I had to park almost... More

I did not do this museum justice. I'd had a hard day and only limited time, but I'd heard how good it was, so I went anyway. I'm so glad I did. I saw the newly installed Renaissance Gallery and loved it. I breezed through the rest of the main floor and was amazed at the depth of the collection.... More

Please don't miss spending some time at one of the best art museums in the country, and it's free. All in a beautiful park-like setting near the zoo and restaurants.

First, this attraction is free. The collection is one of the best in America. I was pleasantly surprised by the depth of the collection. All the big artists are represented. True their may be only 1 or 2 pieces per artist but this isn't a specialty museum. The information along with each piece adds to the experience.

Last year we got to the St. Louis Art Museum about an hour before it closed and were quite frustrated. We should have gone the next morning before heading home. It is just a 4 hour drive. This year we made sure to have the time. This is terrific museum and has plenty to interest us, and we plan to... More

Quite a stunning building with a really wide range of exhibits. All were well displayed with easy to read information. There are three levels, all worth visiting. The American Art is on the top floor. Quite an eclectic collection, just enough on each genre to whet your appetite and stimulate, but nothing had too much to become tedious. The Grand... More

How can you pan an art museum with all the greats and NO ADMISSION CHARGE. On the plus side, it has some treasures. it is free, it is in the park. Less positive, The arrangement of galleries seemed random even chaotic. A Picasso here and then three galleries later--there. It might have been better with a audio guide or a... More

I am here for a work conference and don't get out until about 5 each evening. This place is open until 9, so it is one of the few places to visit that doesn't close early. We were originally driving around the see the zoo (it was closed), but we decided to stop and check out the museum. I've never... More

I'll be frank. I don't know much about art. I enjoy looking at it and admiring it, but I am the last person to tell you anything about the quality of the exhibits in the St. Louis Art Museum. We've lived here in St. Louis 7 years and this was my first trip to SLAM. I wanted to take my... More

Saint Louis has many free and low-cost attractions, but the art museum should definitely be on your list. Their Max Beckmann collection is astonishing; and the Egyptian artifacts will thrill you. Everywhere you turn you'll find hidden treasures from cultures around the world. Tip: Plan your visit so you can get in on a free, docent-led tour of the collection.... More
