Wear good walking shoes. It's a trek up the hill but worth it. Food and restrooms are at the top on the fort compound. Use sunscreen! It's breezy up top and you won't know your burt until it's to late.

Take an afternoon and visit Fort Mackinac while you are on the island. The tours are very interesting for all ages.

Many people might not know, but Mackinac Island is where the war of 1812 started. This was a really neat sight to see and experience! There are many buildings to go through and experience what it was like back in the 1800's. Very interesting and worth going to see.

Once a Year there is a re enactment of a battle ! There is a large ship that sails into the harbor and it shoots a canon at the fort and the fort returns fire with its famous noon canon

Such a very clean park, great for families. Could use more narrators for the various buildings but the demonstrations are great. Cover the ears of little ones! Have some $ on hand, cute gift shop!

we weren't quite sure how our 10 and 13 year old would react going back in time, But as we went from one old home to another we saw the kids get more and more interested asking questions and really enjoying themselves ( we enjoyed as well)

The fort is fun and informative. Our kids like the reinactments and hearing the interersting stories.

The history is just amazing and see and touch these things that have been around a looong time is just so cool.
