When you come to St Michaels you have got to visit the Chesapeake Bay Maritime Museum. It is much more than you would expect with lots of scheduled events throughout the year. I have been a member since I came to St Michaels and still love going. I love going out on Mister Jim for a short trip round the... More

The museum was interesting but you don't need an hour to see it. I was with a large group and our volunteer guide was about 30 minutes late. The workers restoring the skipjack were interesting in their devotion to a 20 year project. It's nice if you have time and the interest.

Thank you for your recent visit, and we're sorry to disappoint you with the late arrival of your docent tour guide. As a non profit organization hosting 55,000 visitors annually, we rely heavily on a corps of more than 200 volunteers to help us as docents and in other roles. It is more often the case that our volunteers are... More

....life, ecology, culture, heritage and Chesapeake history nicely displayed in several buildings....Great for a family afternoon or longer. We have been members for several years and love coming to their various festivals and Big Band Nights. Also lots of hands on and how-to programs. It will take several visit to realize everything there!

My husband and I have a family membership and come out here from DC every time we have friends or family visiting. As others have said, the museum is spread over several buildings. To me, the most interesting exhibit is the lighthouse. It gives a real sense of what it was like to be a lighthouse keeper in the 1800's... More

Thank you for your recent TripAdvisor review. We are grateful for your membership and your continued visits. The shedding tank for crabs may have been empty, because the crabs were note in season at the time. We harvest the crabs for the tank right from the Miles River, and provide them in a great shedding tank at Watermen's Wharf when... More

this museum is spread across a campus comprising several vessels, buildings, a lighthouse, and open-air exhibits. we spent good portions of two separate days learning about fishing, sailing, protecting the shorelines of the small islands, and crabbing. we were loath to leave as there was still so much more to see and learn.

I loved the multi-faceted approach to this museum. One goes from building to building to view the history of the area's maritime experiences from boatbuilding to pleasure boating to lighthouse operations to name a few. It was well done and a wonderful addtion to our weekend getaway.

We absolutely loved our visit to the Maritime Museum. The craftsmen were building a boat in the boat shed and it was very enlightening to watch them work to produce a beautiful wooden boat. We also enjoyed the lighthouse visit and the history about this type of "screw pile" lighthouse frequently used in the bay area. Very unique and interesting.... More

Perhaps because my grandfather was in the Swedish Merchant Marine in the early 1900's I find anything about maritime history fascinating. But this place had something for everyone. The lighthouse was our favorite, but there were hands on exhibits, apprentices learning the trade working in barns, paths to follow and so much to take it is was impossible to see... More

Thank you for your recent visit and review of our Museum. We're so glad you enjoyed our hands-on exhibits, the lighthouse, and more. We agree that a snack bar or food available on campus would be a great benefit to our visitors. Unfortunately, the current zoning of the Museum prohibits us from selling food. Please know that we have approached... More

It was very nice to go through and see everything. The museum seemed a little out dated, but overall it was very nice.
