This is one of the best kept secrets in Garrett County. It has everything: great hiking trails, swimming, camping, picnicing, fishing. Great place to relax and enjoy the outdoors. Not to far from restaurants in Grantsville or Mc Henry if you don't want to cook. More

One of my favorite state parks in MD to look for birds, butterflies and wildflowers. Very well marked trails. More

This is a place near me that I have had the pleasure of going to ever since I was a kid. It is a nice quiet place where you can swim, picnic, go hiking, biking and camping. A good place to go for a family outing. More

NGSP has breathtaking natural beauty. The park rangers do a great job of keeping it clean and nice for visitors. You are more than likely to see bears here in season, and it is fun to watch them More

This is a small state park. The lake is pretty small but they do stock it with trout(during fishing season) A Maryland fishing license would be required with a trout stamp. The lake is ok to rent a small boat and paddle around for a little while. The campground is decent, nothing to get excited about, a little on the... More

We spent a weekend here during a cold winter weekend with the hope of doing some cross-country skiing and snow shoeing. The snow fell lightly during most of our visit, but unfortunately did not accumulate. So, apart from a few short hikes around the lake and along the stream, we spent more time in the old Conservation Corps cabin #1... More

My boyfriend and I stayed in Cabin #1 at New Germany State Park. We arrived at night (drove to the park after work) so we are little leery because the park was pitch black and seemed dead. However, we immediately felt safe and at home once we opened the door. Cabin #1 was warm (staff turned the heat on for... More

I didn't know what to expect from a log cabin, but I admit a shack filled w/ angry raccoons came to mind. When we arrived at Cabin #1 in New Germany State Park, we were very pleasantly surprised to find the place an ideal getaway for two - no phones, no tv, but all the required luxuries of a full... The park itself was not as easy to find as I would have hoped, but once there it was beautiful. The swimming area was clean, beach area as well as the water. The Nature Center person was pleasant and knowledgeable. She was an exchange student from Africa. The snack bar was just closing so we didn't get a chance to... More

This was our second trip to New Germany to do some cross-country skiing in the park. The log cabins we stayed in were built by the Civilian Conservation Corps in the 1930s. Yes, they are rustic. They are also cozy and wonderful. The park rangers renovated the cabins last year and it shows - new appliances, new windows, wood-burning stoves.... More
