We went last summer. Because we reserved in the spring, we were stuck with a choice site. The views of the ocean were spectacular and the beaches were sandy and big. The mosquitos are incredibly bad, so be prepared. One really cool feature is the hundreds of blueberry bushes near the beach. The reservation process is antiquated and they really... More

Where else can you camp on the beach and enjoy this kind of scenery? We love this place. We went last year and stayed at site #42 and we are going back this year. The closer to the beach the better but either way you aren't far from the beach. The store is very well stocked if a bit pricey... More

I learned of this campground from a colleague, who atests to going every year for the past 30 some odd years. I decided to shoot up to the "Island" last weekend, with the wife and nippers, as the weather was nice yet brisk. We were not disappointed. One thing I would say is all photographs of the island I have... More

We usually go to the beach part, I've never camped here, but you can have a carload of people for $5. Facilities are clean and the take out food was good

Secluded sites, spectacular views, almost deserted beaches, snorkling, hiking and quiet. Don't miss it and don't mess it up.

First time visiting Hermit Island Campground and the views are spectacular. We had a "ocean prime" site which was a bit pricey considering there is no water or electric on your site, but the site was spacious and semi-private. The campground takes cash and checks only so be prepared, although they do have an ATM machine in the store. The... More

We have done other beach side camping but there is nothing like this. You really get a beach here unlike other campgrounds you get tidal pools and marsh lands. We love the sound of the ocean, the bouys, and the lobster boats going out. We prefer to go off peak season for I hear it can be loud. And if... More

This is such an interesting place, so many nooks and crannies to explore. We stayed for two nights and spent some time at one of the island's beaches, sand-dollar beach. It was in a nice cove that allowed the kids to explore and swim. It's a very big island with many campsites and it seemed like many campers drove to... More

We stayed at the campground for one night in July. Our site was Harbor Grove #25. It was a "choice site" for $40, which I think was a bit high considering it was water front only during high tide....at low tide there was a view of the mucky area of the inlet. Also, it wasn't a very private site. I... More

Hermit Island is excellent beach camping. The sites are nice in size and there are numerous bathroom and water facilities. The infrastructure of the place is dated an fairly well maintained. The beaches are beautiful and the island is private so it never feels too crowded. It is on the pricey side for tent camping but the location is what... More
