If you want to re-live the history of Chicago you have to visit the oldest building namely Clarke House and see the opulence and splendor of Glessner House. I did tours of both houses on a Wednesday (bonus...a free day) which were both interesting and informative.

We recently had a wonderful tour of this building. The history of the Glessners was fascinating and to be able to get such an intimate view of the house was wonderful. Listening to the research that goes into the renovation and recreation is fascinating. Thank you!

Fascinating building. We had an excellent guide who gave us lots of information on Chicago's history.

The Glessner House is a must-see for Architecture buffs, as the premier extant residential design of one of America's greatest architects, Henry Hobson Richardson. Others who would should go are those interested in interior decoration, particularly William Morris designs or in the artistry in wood worked by Isaac Scott. The Glessner House also provides an interesting architectural study in the... More

Like another reviewer said, the lady at the Glessner House desk was very rude. I came for a free wednesday tour and she said they were full plus she said with a frown upon seeing my two little ones that the tour was an hour long. I said "you mean not good for kids?" and she said yes. I saw... More

Glessner House is a turn-of-the 20th century house/museum with all the elegance (an area with dais for a small orchestra or string quartet to play above a dancefloor) and everyday loveliness of the homes of the rich in that era (French doors, children's schoolroom, servants' quarters). Going up steep steps in dark, very narrow stairways that twist and turn abruptly... More

We went into the Glessner house on the free admission day. Upon entering, we met a woman who was rather unfriendly and tried to make us pay anyway, as a "contribution". We waited for 20 minutes, and then she came in to gather people, and at THAT time she said that "large bags" were not allowed. I had my camera... More

Ths outside is nice but the inside is fabulous! My tourguide was very interesting and informative. You could get a sense of what it was like to have lived here. I would also recommend the Clarke House Tour in conjunction with this one. You save $5 by buying them as a combo.

what the inside looks like based on the outside! You HAVE to take this tour! This house is so large and looming on the outside, yet cozy and warm on the inside. The courtyard is gorgeous! The docent's stories about the family and the lives they lived here is very heartwarming. I highly recommend this tour!

The Glessner House Tour should not be missed -- if you love the outside of this building, the inside will take your breath away! The docents at the Glessner House are excellent! This house is yet another architecturally-significant structures in Chicago, so whether you live here or are visiting, it is absolutely worth taking the time to visit. This space... More
