We had the pleasure, and honor, of visiting Goodwood during our trip to Florida. The grounds, buildings and savored treasures from the plantation , were skillfully displayed in the main house. The current display of the plantation owners clothing is a gem of an addition to the attraction (makes you wonder how they wore long sleeve dresses in the middle... More

The "museum" consists of a main house and outbuildings dating from the 1840s to the 1920s. Easy to navigate from convenient parking. We question whether it would be too hot to enjoy as the weather warms up...to preserve the furnishings the house must remain closed up....

Most old house with old furniture don't interest me too much, as they are usually stuffy and dark, but this one was different. It is very elegant, with fine mouldings and high ceilings, but the layout is quite livable and has an airy, light feeling. The closets are large, which was unusual at that time, and were filled with actual... More

There are several restored plantations in the area, but this is the only one I know that was rennovated to look like it did in the mid 1900s. The gardens are particularly unique because the original pre-Civil War owner was a botanist and you never know what might pop up. They do a super job of hosting special events in... More

Wonderful place to visit! Beautiful house and lovely gardens. Though it was our guide's first day, he was very knowledgable about the history and gave a great tour. The atmosphere was so peaceful we were inclined to wander around the grounds for a good while.

This place is a true gem in that all of its furnishings are original to the house. Most antebellum houses have to put period furniture in them for modern tours, but this house is like a time capsule in that everything in it is from the owners. The staff were very friendly and very knowledgeable. A great place to see... More

This was indeed a magnificent property. Yes, it was the Grand House of a slave plantation. The ghosts of the hundreds of African-Americans whose labor was stolen by their masters can be sensed as you tour the place. The charm and elegance are faded. Much of the furniture is deteriorating, but there is still much to see. We took a... More

The tours are very nice -- you're up close, nothing's roped off, and the history behind the house is explained very well. Goodwood is small compared to, say, Pebble Hill just up the road, but it made for a more intimate look at what life must have been like for the family living there. A very pleasant and educational morning's... More

Beautiful house and garden. The museum is a restored historical gem. The museum has the main house plus other buildings including the stables, which has been turned into a great meeting facility. Make sure to take a tour to hear about the history of Goodwood and its past owners. You learn about Tallahassee by seeing this place.

Well worth a side trip of a couple of hours. This is one of those places where we take out of town guests. My only disappointment, which was on the initial visit, was that the docent kept talking about "free labor" (e.g. slavery). Well, it may have been free to the owner, but not so free to the slave. As... More
