Great place to get lost in for a little while. I wouldn't set aside an entire day to go, but it was a nice departure for a few hours.
You don't find architecture like this anymore, and their collections are extremely interesting and give a good idea of the history of early St. Augustine. Great gift shop as well.
The museum is HUGE! It takes a good two to three hours to tour, but is well worth the time spent. There are many oddities, pieces of colletor's art, antiques, period pieces. I was surprised that the children liked this tour...thought it would only appeal to adults!
Loved the cafe for our lunch, great food and service. The shops surrounding it are also a nice diversion. The exhibits in the museum were well placed, lighted and informative. Definitely will recommend to others.
Went for the curator's tour. We have been to the Lightner before and enjoyed it but wanted to go back for the tour. I'm sure it was nice but I felt short changed as we would not have come back (and paid... More

Lightner purchased Flagler's old Alcazar Hotel and filled it with a lifetime's worth of collectibles. Lightner was a serious "pack rat" type collector of anything and everything and filled up the three floors with thousands of period pieces from the early 1900's. From cigar wrappers to Tiffany lamps and complex player musical contraptions that still work - this place will... More
We spent a very nice couple hours at the museum. Very nice old building and well worth the visit. Nice old objects everywhere.
The entrance to the museum is through a very pretty courtyard. The museum itself has a large collection of crystal and porcelain, and the fact that parts of it were originally a swimming pool is amazing.
I came here with my wife and extended family while on vacation. This museum has something for everyone. Paintings to buttons. This is definitely a must see while in St. Augustine. The museum takes about 1.5 hrs (or more if you read every exhibit) to go through.
