This museum is located in the town Micanopy, FL. The museum is small but has many historical artifacts from the area. The town has 38 historic buildings from the 1800's. The earliest marker in the cemetery is 1826. Visit the museum then take a walking or driving tour of the historic buildings.

I loved this Museum! We went as a family and could have stayed all day if we read everything there. Loved the exhibits! Very well put together. If you are in Gainesville I would highly recommend stopping by!

Micanopy is a small town with a lot of history. The buldings are really neat to see as there is the jail, an old garage all of which hold antique stores. Its a laid back place with a few places to eat that are good as well. People are friendly too. Its a relaxing way to spend time.

Very interesting inside and out. Very nice volunteer staff. Neat stuff! I especially like the general store section and items that were traded/sold at this location.

I'd been in Micanopy twice but never took the extra steps to the Historical Society Museum. Yesterday, I was sent there as part of a scavenger hunt. And I found a gem! So much information and HISTORY packed into this small building. When we walked in, the president of the Historical Society was reading from an actual newspaper from the... More

I was not expecting much, since this is an extremely small town filled mainly with shops of antiques, a few restaurants and a great used book store (my fave in FL). We really enjoyed our informative visit and highly recommend this as a stop on your first visit to Micanopy, the location for the Michael J Fox gem, "Doc Hollywood".

I pulled off the turnpike? for gas and decided to explore. I went east into town following signs and was transported into an amazing early north Florida town. HUGE I mean GIANT ancient trees with the most spanish moss I've ever seen. No hurricanes hit here! It was after 6 pm and the village was deserted. OLD brick buildings and... More

As the name suggests, this museum is where you will find the history of Micanopy. It's worth a visit. You will find displays of Native American artifacts and items from an old general store among other things. The people who work there are very friendly and informative. You do not have to pay admission, but of course you are going... More

It is unlikely that you will be in Micanopy if you haven't planned to be there. If you are there to relax for the weekend then this museum is the perfect place to spend the lazy morning. Here you can browse through a wide spectrum of history. There are sections on the Seminoles & the Timucua as there is one... More
