Where the Boys are movie at the Elbow Room is long past but the spirit of a great beach continues. Nthe City of Fort Lauderdale has done an exceptional job in preserving this pristine beach area. Parking is immediately available.
The new river doesn't have particularly good access. Not very clean. Nice to take a cruise on it and see the homes. The walk along it is mostly unexciting and often you have to contend with homeless beggars.
Nice ride by water taxi from one great restaurant and bar to another. Greg and Chris at Shooters are the best and Dave and Lisa at shooters equal their drink pouring skills
There are several good choices for tours of the New River area with Riverfront Cruises being one of our favorites and I guess the Carrie B being our second choice.
If you visit Fort Lauderdale, the Venice of America, you need to walk the New River. There are two sides but the North side has the longer expanse. It starts at Las Olas and ends at sailboat bend. Found out about this from a local gentleman on the Sun trolley. Boy, did he do us a favor Terrific tour by a great crew and captain. So many facts, so many interesting sights.
The Riverwalk on the New River looked like a good idea, but is very sparsely populated, as we wandered the walkways past scores of closed businesses. We ate at what looked like the only open restaurant.
We enjoy meeting friends to take in the artists and musicians each first Sunday of the month. We set up a tent and bring the dog, too. Great afternoon outing.
Slowly but (hopefully) surely this area will start to thrive again. The jazz festivals one Sunday a month are quite wonderful with people staking out their territory with blankets chairs and tents early in the day. Music is ALWAYS great with at least two venues to listen to. Food available by local restaurants and wine/beer offered too. Don't recall if...
