This little "historic town" has the wonderful main attraction of feeding the chipmunks. They sell the seeds there for 25 or 50 cents, and the kids, chipmunks and birds all have a great time! We had my son, 14, and my niece (almost 2) and they both had fun. They also have some antique shopping and a gift shop/general store... More

We drove to St. Elmo in May and there was a lot of snow along the way. Great day trip from many areas in Colorado. Great pictures were taken and since it was off season there were no crowds. Highly recommended for all who love the mountains and history!

Make sure you feed the Chipmunks! Check out the cemetery. It's before you get to St. Elmo, at the Iron City Camp Ground. Very interesting!

There are old mining district buildings in various states of upkeep with some buildings falling apart. An easy drive when the roads are clear. Don't trespass onto the properties as they are individually owned, but photos from the outside are fine.

We visited the St. Elmo ghost town in the off season during a snow storm which made it all the more magical! We look forward to going back during the tourist season to see it come alive.

We love to spend a day a the Mt. Princeton Hot Springs and then head to St. Elmo to feed the chipmunks and have an ice cream novelty at the General Store! St. Elmo is gorgeous in the Fall!!

St Elmo is an authentic mining ghost town located in the high country of the central Colorado. Access to the town is via a well maintained two lane road upon which the speed limits should be carefully followed as you will desire to be peering at the wonderful countryside as you drive up to the location. Along the way you... More

Worth the 12 mile drive through Chalk Creek Canyon, up a snow-packed road in March in a minivan! The buildings retain their old west charm, with signs marking the general store and post office, among others, that were built in the 1880s. While the town is on the register of historic places, the buildings are privately owned and tenderly maintained.... More

The buildings themselves are cool to see, but I must say the snow mobiles in the winter kind of ruin the whole "ghost" aspect. Also , with some of the buildings being worked on, it takes away from its originality. It's free, so I can complain, but I was a bit let down after reading how good and "preserved" it... More
