The Stanford mansion is a wonderful piece of Sacramento and state history. Home to Governor Leland Stan]ford, it is possible to see the flood marks, circa 1862, in one closet in the mansion. Long used as a home for children by the Catholic church, many furnishings were preserved buy the church. All the carpets and window dressings were faithfully reproduced... More

The tourist attraction is the old Governors Mansion on 16th and H Streets but the Leland Stanford Mansion is much larger more interesting, attractive and larger. Before budget cuts, the mansion was decorated every holiday season. Check open times with the California State ark Service before going.

The Stanford Mansion is a great stop if you are exploring California and trying to gather a physical experience for how the American west was won. The mansion is located in downtown Sacramento a few blocks from the Capital and Old Sacramento. It has been beautifully restored and is open to the public daily for tours that are free. All... More

I went on the 4:00 p.m. tour. As it was the last tour of the day and a small group, the tour guide gave us a slightly longer tour. I also enjoyed the short historical film, given from the home's perspective, before the tour. It gave the home personality. Definitely worth the time if you enjoy history. The tour guide... More

went on two tours, once with out of town family. Each was fascinating, and the different guides had different presentations. Surprised how much aI liked it the second time.

I lived in the area some decades before I ever toured the "Governor's Mansion" as we always referred to it. I finally ended up as a chaperone for my son's field trip one year. (This was a while back.) It's a lovely Victorian and the tour guides have interesting anecdotes to tell of it's architecture & it's famous occupants. (California... More

Finding the entrance was tricky the first time here. there is a free Visitors Cener where many locals go to learn about the masion . you need 40 minutes here and there is a film on mrs. Stanford. the Stanford Mansion had a $22 million renovation and this is wher foreign dignitaries offer eat with the Governor.. if it wasn't... More

We had a fun tour here. Knowledgable docents provided interesting stories, and I would recommend a visit.

This is a beautiful Victorian house re-modeled to resemble the time the Stanfords lived there in 1871. More than 50% of the furniture is original. During the 100+ years it was a home (first orphanage and then girls' home) some of the furniture had been stored in the attic and some pieces sold off. The mansion is the property of... More
