I am conflicted in writing this review because while I love this region but hope that it never gets any more crowded than it already has become.

I come to this valley several times a year and this spring it is more gorgeous than ever. All is green, apple trees are in bloom, and very woolly sheep graze in the pastures. Lots of wonderful wineries--Husch, Navarro, Scharffenberger, Roederer, Handley, many I have not yet visited, and some newer ones--Bint and Breggo, both of which have excellent wines....

The inland valley is very scenic. Not the greatest road for some of it, but lovely in all the different seasons. You'll probably see flocks of turkeys, maybe a deer or two (hopefully not in the road) and wonderful vistas.
What is not to like driving from Cloverdale to Hwy 1 slong the Navarro River to the North Coast of Mendocino. Boonville is a great one-horse town. Eat at Lauren's Cafe for healthy, delicious, down-home Food. Vist Burt's Boontberry Farms Store opposite the drive-in at the north end of town.
This probably was what Napa valley was before it become too commercialized. It is gorgeous and simple. There are just enough wineries for a long weekend stay and enough places in Boonville to enjoy an intimate stay. It is about a 45 minute drive or an hour to the coastline. That road is quite windy. You drive through beautiful land...

So many first class wineries. The scenery is glorious - unspoiled by commercialism. Favorite Cabernet - Silver Oak has vineyard here.
If you are headed for the Mendocino Coast, stopping at Navarro Winery and Handley Cellars (among other fabulous wineries) is a must. Both have lovely garden settings with clean picnic areas. Buy a bottle of Navarro pino noir (paired with cold poached salmon or chicken which you bring along) or Handley gewurstraminer (great with melon). Both make a perfect stop...

We live on the coast but enjoy taking day trips to the Anderson Valley for wine tasting, picnics, and taking in the beautiful scenery in this unspoiled valley. It's much more rustic and undeveloped than Napa Valley - certainly not the crowds of people and cars. Fall is a lovely time to visit when the apples are sold at roadside...

This is the place I go to relax. The people are always friendly whether you go to a winery, stop for lunch or pop into a store. It is certainly not overcrowded and it feels like Napa but 30 or 40 years ago. Many people speed thru on their way to Mendocino and they are missing some wonderful pleasures. Boonville...
