When I worked for City of Palo Alto, I always thought that this garage was a secret for those in the know, and the residents were not to be bothered. It's funky and old, but a shrine nonetheless.

The home is a lovely shingled craftsman and the garage is the original, small and understated. But, oh, the history behind it! Dave Packard and his wife rented the house and Bill Hewlett lived in the teeny, tiny cottage/shed behind the house while they seeded Silicon Valley in the garage.
This garage is a must see in any walking tour of Palo Alto. It isn't so much for how it looks, but to really appreciate the idea that revolutionary innovation can happen anywhere. Got a garage? You can change the world? Mighty oaks from little acorns and such. Be there. Do that!
Great walking neighbourhood and stumble across the HP garage. If you know the history of the company it's interesting to be there. Otherwise it really is just like looking at someone's garage!
OK: very geeky. I took visitors by when visiting other friends who live near by. I would not otherwise go by. My bias: I am a Bill Hewlett scholar (got a modest scholarship in college from him).
The Hewlett Packard garage won't be on everybody's list of must-see places, but if it's a beautiful day and you want to take a nice walk in the residential Professorville area of Palo Alto, why not indulge your inner geek and take a glance and maybe a photo or two of the first Bay Area workshop of Bill Hewlett and Dave...

This is where history was created - the seed (idea) germinated right here and Silicon Valley was born. A place of Pilgrimage for all who believe in "High-Technology".
It's a typical Palo Alto house with an old garage with green doors on it. The most interesting part of the property for me was the California historical marker in the front of the house. Worth a few minutes to check out.
