You're on Balboa Island: A five star sand bar in the middle of crowded southern California, an hour from Disneyland. So what is fun, cheap, and historic? The Balboa Ferry, of course. For a paltry sum you can ride a classic wooden three-car ferry, built in 1955-57 and get a great view of Newport Harbor. Take the kids across to... More

A quaint little 3 car ferry, great way to go from one island to the other. Cost us $4 for the car and an extra passenger. It is a short trip and only takes a few minutes but we really got a kick out of it.

We cruised from Balboa Island to the peninsula on our bikes. Only $2.50. Easy on and off with no waiting.

It was a fun experience to do it the first time, but I would like more room for bikers and pedestrians. It was a very outdated ferry and I was very nervous with my young children sitting on the sides less than a foot from cars.

Fun little ferry boat trip, where you get to drive your car on board and across to the island and back. Loved it.

We got lost and ended up taking the ferry because we couldn't find our way over to the island. It is cheap and a fun experience for the kids. You just sit in your car and cruise on across. It only takes about 5-10 min so no delay in getting to your destination
