This is a nice stoll through historic Monterey. Trai Is well marked but don't forget to bring your iPod along with the downloaded tour guide. Most of the historic buildings are currently used as private businesses so not much to see in terms of period sights. More

We had a morning before we caught our plane so followed the path to 3 sites: The Presido Chapel, the Cooper- Molera house and the Colton House which tells the history in sequence from the Spanish rule to Mexican and finally at the Colton House is where California becomes a state. Volunteers are so willing to answer any questions. Very... More

Well laid out and taking you along some of the more quiet side streets of this lovely town, the Path of History is not only for history buffs. If you want to get the real feel for old Monterey, then this walking tour can be just the thing for you. Along the way you can stop and shop or rest... More

I am a huge fan of Monterey history and encourage visitors to avail themselves of the unique opportunity to enjoy CA's most historic city. Sadly, most of the historic adobes and other buildings are rarely open to the public due to budget cutbacks. Colton Hall is regularly open and a must see. The walk itself does not take that long,... I did this a couple years ago and enjoyed the walk about Monterey town and looking/visiting the buildings from the California Mexican Era. It's a level walk. There are guides of the sights available. It's FREE! More

This is a MUST for those interested in understanding California history! I have this as one of the extra credit assignments in my undergraduate course in California history. One can truly feel the history on this tour. Seeing the Larkin house with the small adobe in which Wm T. Sherman lived--right across from Colton Hall--is a step into the past.... More

On this tour, you need to do more than just "follow the yellow dots". Go to www.seemonterey.com and download their "Monterey Path of History" audio tour (in mp3 format). Print out the map and go to the first stop, then fire up your MP3 player and listen to the excellent audio portion of the tour. Yes -- some of the... More

The only way you know your on the path are the little yellow circles encased into the cement in 5 to 6 different languages leading you to sites of places that used to be homes to people who used to live there in the beginning of Monterey, which are now some new buisness which doesn't really have much to do...
