This mission and church are gorgeous. Please take time to visit when you are in Carmel - it's full of history, beauty, and art, and provides a fascinating window on the history of the area. When we were there on a Sunday, several children were making their first communion, which added a lot to the experience and showed us what... More

WOW! We've visited Carmel for almost 20 years, we've visited the Mission a dozen times, but this was the first time we were in town for, and attended, a Mass. Saturday evening at 5:30 pm, and the priest delivered a homily that had us enthralled. DO. NOT. MISS. THE. MISSION. Catholic or not, it's amazing from a California history perspective,... More

Such a wonderful story of hardship, belief & dedication. Inside the Mission Church is a feeling of simplicity & peace. A good grounding after the opulence of Carmel. More

We toured the mission and the docent in the chapel was very interesting to listen to. There have been seven churches on the site since it's inception. Very much worth seeing. More

One of the prettiest missions because it is so obviously hecho de mano. Just look at the cock-eyed rose window above the entry. Charmingly rugged. The site was abandoned in 1850s and resurrected 100 years later. Two smaller museums on site. Check out the Munras Family museum behind the church. A great spot to build your knowledge of California history. More
