I suggest having a guide along. There are several "priests" along they way that are happy to pray with you and then set the price.

I went down the ghats (take out your shoes!!!) and I realized the truly calm and tranquillity of the place...difficult to find in the rest of Rajasthan. The Lotus fell from the hand of God Brahma and the water came out from the land which was name as Pushkar.
The ghats are quite need and clean but it needs regular cleaning at regular intervals of the day, cows are seen at the Gau Ghat dirting the place by urine and dung.

The Brahmin temple is worth a visit and the lake is too. The Karma ceremony performed by the Sadir is an excuse to have you part with your money - I would skip this as I didn't feel particularly good about being asked for frst $50, then $20 in order that the Karma would work

Beautifully atmospheric lake and ghats, especially at sunrise and sunset. Can be very busy and noisy during the Mela when hundreds of people visit the ghats for puja. The music and drumming goes on most of the night during the festival.

Lovely place - cleaner Ghats than Varanasi!!! Small square shape is pleasant though limited as to where you can take photos. Quiet in April, pleasant but NOT as photogenic again - as Varanasi. Nice to see and speak with locals. SEVERAL 'con-men' trying to get western women to 'float a flower on the ghats'.. for a money sting
