We stopped off on the road between Satpura and Bhopal and were provided with a lovely lady (speaking perfect English)to guide us. It took perhaps an hour and a half to have a thorough tour and marvel at the paintings. The highlight of an otherwise humdrum drive. More

Never stop your kids from painting the walls you never know when they are contributing to create a history. If you don’t believe me than do pay visit to bhim betika near Bhopal. Here you can witness the scenes that depict hunting, dancing, music, horse and elephant riders, animals fighting, honey collection, decoration of bodies, disguises, masking and household scenes.... You shall be amazed at the still quite clearly visible sketches and paintings in the Rock Shelters at Bhimbetka, which is around 45 Km from Bhopal on the National Highway to Hoshangabad. There is an MP Tourism hotel along the NH where you can stay overnight. However, it is just beside the Rly. tracks and it is a bit difficult... More

I was enroute from Bhopal to Satpura National Park when the driver asked me if I wanted to see some cave paintings. I am so glad that I said yes, because a wonder awaited me. This remote clump of rocks which had many overhangscontained work by pre-history people who found the position which gave excellent views of the surrounding countryside.... More

The Bhimbetka rock shelters are a series of caves near Bhopal where there are drawings made by the cave dwellers. The site is around 60km from Bhopal but the high way was in such bad condition that it takes 3 hours to reach the place. Please carry water and snacks to the shelters as there are no stores nearby. The caves are really awesome. I enjoyed them at length. Every step has a board containing the details of that spot. There are total of 15 spots to see. Last one containing the biggest figure of an animal. lot of the images are washed out with time but the remaining one are very well maintained by MP Tourism. Absolutely Recommended... More

The caves at Bhimbetka is date back to the Mesolithic era. One can see the painting from that time which tells you a lot of the way they lived. The painting deptic the pleasures and hardship the people at time faced. The painting of the elephant like animal chasing a man shows how the people co-existed with the animals and... More
