We spent 2 full days hiking around Petra. We were worried that we would need a guide but we saw everything on our own easily. Go to the High place of sacrifice and go to the Monastery, both worth the climb and on your way down don't be afraid to wander off the main paths and do some exploring, the... more

Words cannot describe how cool this place is. There is so much to explore other than the very obvious Treasury, Theatre, Royal Tombs, etc... Definitely see the High Place of Sacrifice and the Monastery at sunset. And DON'T be afraid to wander off and follow some of the stairs that lead up. I felt bad for the people in the... more

Petra is incredible. It is a treat in every respect. Expect to be amazed at every twist in the rocks and in the ancient city. It is now easy to get across the border from Israel and it is absolutely worth the trip. Plan to come early, before the groups get there. more

Everyone smiles, though crowded, this huge crossroad for the world's visitors continues to entrawl. Breathtaking, but Treasury bldg is closed. A Four hours road trip from Ammon airport, plan for multiple days and rough underfoot walking. Take your time ride a camel or a donkey. more

I reasently visited petra with some friends. This site is astonishing for sure. But as someone already has mentioned, donkeys and horses are suffering to bring income to their desperate owners. Most of them are undernurished and I never saw any of them getting fed or any oportunity to drink water. We not see any fat turist sit on them... more

I've always wanted to go to Petra and it did not disappoint. Be prepared for plenty of walking when you get there and please do walk because even though things have improved over the years the horses and donkeys are still poorly treated around the site. Take your time to find the less travelled paths. The Monastary is amazing and... more

I lived in Jordan for 6 months in 2004, and naturally visited Petra. I stayed at the Movenpick hotel directly across from the access gates, and would strongly recommend this hotel as well. As you walk down the Siq, you are amazed by the natural beauty of the rock, as well as the industrious water-transport system built into the walls... more

Petra is absolutely one of the most spectacular sites I have ever experienced. * There is so much on the internet about Petra I can't begin to put it all it here. However I did research a lot and looked forward to actually experiencing Petra. Just getting into the actual city is a 3k walk over ancient cobblestones with grooves... more

Plan to spend at least half a day so you do not have to rush. There is a long walk(you can get a buggy or animal to ride but I did not price them) The walk is interesting as the formations are hugh and high. The Treasury is a marvelous building. There are others but that is the marvel. Do... more

It is a long, dry walk through the narrow passage that seems long with brief water and rest stops. But worth every mile. Our guide left us to discover the last turn and the treasury as silence is the first response to the sight. He was right. The vision of the dreamers as to what is possible and the skills... more
