The scale and size that this city was built on goes to show how rich, powerful and visionary the Persian kings may have been. And to see the place at sunrise or sunset is a visual and photographic treat. We spent 3 hours there and still felt like we rushed through it. And the restaurant near the place offers the... More

Can't miss this great ancient place. The king of Persia Cyrus the Great (Kūrosh) chose the site of Persepolis, but it was Darius the Great (Daryush) who built the terrace and the great palaces. It's hard to imagine how the tall pillars were built at that time & still fifteen of the pillars stand intact. This amazing site should be... More

Persepolis is only an hour or so out of Shiraz and very worth the trip! I went with Gashttour and had an excellent guide in Kazem Abbasnejadi who was a perfect guide with great knowledge which was delivered in an easy and humourous style. This is an excellent trip and I can't understand why so few tourists go there. Iran... More

I visited this site as “must see”. In my opinion- nothing special. Ruins everywhere .There are a lot of more interesting historical places to visit in Iran. Most people visiting this place are very excited because they ARE in Iran. In my opinion there is the only magnificent spot - the entrance gate. More

simply magnificent and stunning. a highlight of any trip to Iran. Who would ever dislike this? Funny that the entrance fee is.. 5,000 Rials. Thanks for the kindness of the Persians. if it is 50,000 or even 500,000 it still worth. More

If US citizen, you must travel in tour group, so you have no trouble getting there. Others travelling individually can take a taxi from Shiraz that will wait two hours for you for---YES!!!---about $6 for the entire trip. The bas reliefs are stunning, the remains of the palaces show a colossal scale found elsewhere only in Egypt. People are friendly,... More

In Iran, everyone refers to persepolis as one if its greatest treasures. If you've read the history about the place, and seen the incredible computer recreations of how it looked at its prime is unbelievable. Impressive are the steps at the entrance and once you reach the main area, it is evident that something great once stood here. But today,... More

Went with a friend (who knew a fair detail about history) as we toured the site. Also had the lonelyplanet guide to Iran with me. What is worthwhile is how well some of the carvings have been preserved. Check out the tombs of Artaxerxes II/III up on the hill which gives a great lookout of the entire palace. NB if... More
