The Concierge at the Sedona Real Inn recommended doing the route, turning around and coming back. You really do see it differently. Well I just had to do the return trip once more after that too!
This is a short drive, but one that is very memorable. You will get many photos of beautiful rock formations in the Sedona area.
This road trip rivals the Grand Canyon because you get up close to the rock formations. The view feels almost like a 3D movie. Lots of trailheads to stop and go hike for an even closer view. Be sure purchase the parking pass Red Rock for $5 a day or $15 for a week. That way you wont risk a...

Very nice winding road above Sedona. Great views and some nice places to purchased Native American artwork!
There's really no other word to describe this drive. Worth the time and easy to access. And not one of those drives where there's a long commitment.

Heard about the 179 from a classica american drive book, and was not disappointed. Great views from different angles of the Sedona red rocks that seem to come out of nowhere, and change their appearance and color with the movement of the sun and light. Very pretty area and great drive to take.
