This hike is one of the two most strenuous day hikes to do in Sedona. The other is Wilson Mountain. The full hike goes up to 6800 feet. There are two "false summits" when you think you've made it, but then you see when you get there, that the trail goes on. Be prepared to do some scrambling in some... More

A lot harder than the guide books say. You'd better be in very good shape and have really good hiking boots, lots of water. Will really raise your heartbeat.

Parking @ doe mesa TH, one crosses the paved road to get to bear mt. trail. Hiking books say trail is strenuous...i say HA! I think the entire trail is like facing down a bully. First there is a squaring-off and test of strength. If one does'nt back down after the intial bluff, keep striving, knowing that height wins views,... More

We hiked in about 1 hour up the trail and got to essentially the top. Great views of the surrounding area. Good hike with nothing too strenuous. Don't forget to get a parking permit. Not something you have to do, but a great little hike for sure.

I'm five months pregnant and my husband and I hiked this in four hours (including a lunch stop at the top). I took plenty of shade breaks and didn't have any issues. If you find you cannot commit to the top, there are numerous view points on the way up so turning around will not feel like a total letdown.... More

We were going to do the Doe Mtn trail, but when we got to the trailhead it looked too easy. The parking area also serves as the trailhead for the Bear Mtn trail, which is demanding for an average hiker. Take snacks and plenty of water, and keep on truckin'. You're not at the top until you can see the... More

This hike took our kids about 3 hours round trip to complete. We were half an hour behind them ( knees are not the best going down hill). It is said to be the toughest hike in Sedona, and it is a climb, but we live in the NW and have steeper climbs here. Don't be intimidated.

great hike. wonderful views and a good test of your hiking skills. The trail is not well marked going up the last bit. But, certainly findable and worth the effort. Easily 5 hrs up and back, so be prepared with water and a light jacket.

I hike regularly so was surprised to read I should expect a 7 hour hike for 5 miles. I'm glad I scouted the trailhead the day before and got there just as the sun was rising. I'm also glad I hiked it. I finished in just over 6 hours. It is slow hiking because there were often rocks along the... More

This is a physical hike on a relatively bare mountain with very little shade until you reach the summit so be prepared for relentless sun and provide lots of H20 for hydration. Great view from the summit almost 360 degrees.
