We had planned just to visit Montezuma Well and Montezuma Castle but saw a blurb about the V-bar-V site in the guided book and decided to stop there as well. I'm very glad we did. It's a relatively short easy trail to the petroglyphs. There is a $2 trail guide that is worth picking up that describes what you’re viewing.... More

We visited this site after going to Montezuma's Castle. After hiking a very short, easy trail you will arrive at the Petroglyphs. They had a guide giving information about the site. The drive to the site is beautiful. I would allot about an 1 hour and a half for your visit.

My husband and I spent over an hour at this site. We witnessed the sun casting specific shadows across the rocks revealing messages regarding the time of year. We also got to see the sun cast a shadow of the exact skyline of the San Francisco mountain peaks located miles away, north of Flagstaff, which were considered sacred and the... More

If you truly want to experience the origins of "native man" in the Verde Valley, you must visit the V-V Petroglyphs and Montezuma Well National Monument. Both have easy access, and can be appreciated by young and old travelers. Just off I-17 a few miles, and we took exit 293 (east).

A definite must see! It's about a mile hike on flat ground round trip. You will need a Red Rock pass or equivalent which you can buy there. It's a small site but the petroglyphs are remarkable. A highlight of our trip!

I agree with the other reviews: Directions to the site are easy to follow; it's a pleasant walk from the parking area (use your US Forest Service Red Rock Pass, or buy one here and use it extensively in the area) through old-growth trees along Beaver Creek; the display area is compact but has lots of petroglyphs to see; and... This is a relatively accessible area to see a ton of petroglyphs. In the spring sometimes there are events with docents volunteering on site.

The best place in the area to see petroglyphs up close and personal. Its a bit out of the way and not heavily advertized so it is not over run. The hosts are vols but very personable and knowledeable. Definate MUST.

A bit off the normal route it is very accessible from the Interstate. Located in a nice valley with good birding opportunities. I was a bit disappointed by the limited display. What was there was very nice just more limited than some other sites I have visited.

We went early in the morning and had the forest ranger all to ourselves. The petroglyphs are outstanding. There are so many that it takes a while to see them all. Some date back several thousand years while others are more recent, about 1100 AD. The ranger was very knowlegable and enjoyed sharing his love of this wonderful site.
