Punta Tombo is a must see when you're visiting Puerto Madryn. We visited during the egg laying season in October and it was fantastic. Top tip: if we were to visit again we would try to time our visit around hatching season - near the end of November. From Puerto Madryn we drove to Punta Tombo then visited Gaiman (for... More

We docked in Puerto Madryn around 10am on April 3 and met Diego from Sentir Patagonia right at the end of the gangway. He took us to meet our driver/guide for the day, Fernando, who was very knowledgeable & wanting to share information about his country. We then headed toward Punta Tombo in search of the small Magellan penguin found... More

A great penguin colony with and amazing landscape, but normally very crowded. You have to go at the beginning or end of the day to try to escape the crowd. If there is a crew ship in Puerto Madryn, do not go because the is full full of people and big buses. The trip is long, and a nice tip... More

Yes it's possible. There's nothing where the main road has the cross to the National Park but just a small parking for trucks to have a break. Several trucks stops there anyway so you should be able to hitchhike always at least to one direction. And even there are no trucks parked, they normally stopped also in the middle of... More

We took a car rental and drove to Punta Tomba from Puerto Madryn to watch Penguins for the day. The ride was long and dusty, but worth every bit of dust, blowing out of the AC. We arrived early in the morning and NO cruiseships were in port that day ! We sat down on the path and had penguins... More

We took a tour (small van with about 14 passengers) from Puerto Madryn and the drive to the Punta Tomba Penguin Rookery was about 2 hours and well worth it. The day we visited, it was overcast wth a light rain. This penguin rookery is the largest peguin nesting grounds in South America. We did see lots and lots of... More

If you can go to any other penguin reserve in Argentina, then avoid Punta Tombo. Otherwise, enjoy an air-conditioned bus provided by the reserve with the hordes of elderly tourists all for the price of 130 ARS pp. Other sites are less crowded and free. And last, you will not see penguins in the water, only on the ground -... More

A huge reserve of penguins, in relatively warm weather. They penguins were looking for shade because of the temperature. Massive colony about an hour and a half south of Puerto Madryn. Not much to see in the city or on the trip out to the reserve.

We visited Punta Tombo as a shore excursion when visiting Puerto Madryn. We booked our tour through Forastero Tours. They responded promptly to my emails and the tour was as expected. Someone from the tour company was waiting for us at the pier with a sign. The van was comfortable, clean and well-maintained. We drove for 2 hours on very... More

Not really as you would not be allowed to in this special conservation area/park for Penguins. You do, however, get to really up close to this amazing little animals. It's a bit of a bumpy ride to get here but well worth the effort as the whole area is just jammed packed with penguins going about their daily business. I... More
