Peninsula Valdes in Patagonia, Argentina is the best place in the world for whale watching. The whales come here every winter and for part of spring for breeding and feeding, before continuing their journey to Antarctica. I arrived at Puerto Madryn, the gateway town to Peninsula Valdes, at 8:00 am on the second day of spring. I was supposed to... More

I want to mention that there are tour operators unclear when they sell a package such as the Tour Operator in Argentina RYAN’S TOUR (www.ryanstravel.com) because in the tour arranged by them to the Valdes Peninsula has happened that, although at the start of the tour we had repeatedly said to the guide / driver that we were not interested... After an early pickup in a private tour 4x4 truck from Pto Madryn,we explored the whole area with our tour guide Marcos for the whole day starting at 7am and finishing around 7pm. Marcos' knowledge was amazing in both natural and human history. The explantion was in depth without becoming boring holding our attention constantly. The views were spectacular and... More

Is is advisable to go to see the whales in the season (late summer to early December) to see the babies with their mothers. Otherwise, there are penguins, sea lions, elephant seals to watch. Better go with a small group to see more animals (i.e., have more time to do it). More

I done this tour on the 10/2 and was definitely worth doing. I booked it through my hostel for AR250 plus the AR70 park entry fee. I was picked up at 8:30 in the morning and as there was only 2 other people in the tour that day we were in a pickup truck rather than a minibus. The guide... More

It's too bad it's necessary but touristas are kept back 100 yards or so from the beach. If you do to the sea lion beach it's more like 400 yards. STill, fun to watch, especially if the pups are there. More

We took a guided tour of the peninsula for about $60 each, plus another $17 to enter the nature reserve. While it was interesting to see the wildlife, we spent more time on the bus than actually observing animals. Also, at the end of the tour we stopped at Puerta de Piramides, a tiny town with nothing but a beach... More

We spend 2 full days and nights at the peninsula and used the hotel in Punto Delgado as our base. Though traveling a lot on different continents, we have never been so close to such amazing animals living in their own habitat. Our hotel was less than 100 meters from the coast where the elephant seals were lying at the... More

If you make a trip to Argentina, Península de Valdes is a must to see. Puerto Madryn is a small city, not very interesting in my opinion, but the sorroundings, are simply amazing: take a walk by the beach, linger in the sun with a cold slight breeze, and let your senses feel. Puerto Pirámides is a spectacle of sea... More

Starting in Puerto Piramides, it is best to drive directly to Punta Cantor (RP 2, RP 3, and RP 52). There is a good starting point for a walk (40 min) to see the marine elephants, and you will appreciate the restaurant (self-service) as well. Then drive north along the shore, along Caleta Valdes, to Punta Norte (great views), and... More
