The museums in general in Stellenbosch has a really big potential. The village museum should be one example of doiing something about it. They have a interesting history, too little focus on people that have really suffered and worked under bad conditions.

An informative and interesting visit to the four houses which make up this museum. The staff were knowledgable and happy to answer questions. It was a good insight into the life of the priviledged white population of SA.

A small section of glass cased exhibits - mostly toys and dolls of yesteryear - by the entrance then four separate houses portraying Stellenbosch life at different periods in the last 350 years. The Schreuderhuis dating from around 1700 had very simple furniture, a herb garden and a most informative guide. Adjacent was the Blettermanhuis - dating from 1789 -... More

A very enjoyable half hour or so visiting four living museum period houses. At each house you are met by a lady in period costume who tells you about the house and who lived there. Very interesting.

Although we had been to Stellenbosch many times, we visited this museum for the first time after seeing it recommended in a guide book. The houses are beautifully presented and show various periods from 1709 to 1850 and different degrees of grandeur. Inside each house museum staff in period costume will give a brief, if somewhat monotonous, introduction and then... More

You visit 4 colonial houses in original state! The museum looks small but extends across the street.

Do not miss this peek at Stellenbosch,s past, the museum entrance is fairly low key but pay the 30 rand and continue through to see each cottage and hear the stories from well informed guides. Allow a couple of hours as you wander the grounds and homes, you have access to all rooms and gardens.

Lovely museum which allows you to wander around 4 period houses and their gardens. The houses are very different and each tell a story of their owners. their are guides in each of the houses which give you some background but you are also free to wander around at will. Well worth a visit
