Easy drive from cruise pier to Mendenhall Glacier to explore on your own and then if your package allows, a salmon bake afterward. This is glacier interaction at its best for those who need ease of exploration.

We took a helicopter to the top of the glacier and did some snow trekking around the area. It was so amazing. The water and ice pools had so many different colors of blue. It was one of my favorite things I have ever done. It was a blast.

This was my favorite trip on my 7 day Alaskan cruise. The walk over very level ground is easy and frequently has persons in wheelchairs making the trip without difficulty. It is well worth the hike. Standing in the visitors area you really cannot grasp how big the glacier really is. You also cannot realize you are actually in a rain forest! We were lucky enough to be able to go up in a helicopter and get a better view of the glacier field - it was well worth the extra money .
