it was close to low season, so it was not crowded anywhere. we had our own guide for the national park. very relaxing. we loved Tortugera Lodge and its staff.

Tortuguero is very remote but worth the effort to get there. I took a morning canal tour in a kayak, which started in a heavy downpour way earlier than I normally get up ... Enjoyable touring and experience, and if you have not travelled extensively in jungle area's that are hot and humid, you will get the experience.

The Tortuguero national park has a lot to offer, even if one does not visit when the turtles come to lay eggs. Not until you visit this place-unguided I went and the wildlife just jumped out at me-loved it-just didn't see any turtles

Maybe it was the time of year but we saw more wildlife at our resort than we did on both of our water excursions.
