This step-well is in the village of Abnaheri, just ten minutes off the main Jaipur to Agra road near Bamanpura. It's worth making the detour if you're passing that way. Tourists doing whistle-stop Golden Triangle tours (Delhi-Agra-Jaipur) with the more-enlightened coach operators sometimes make a brief cultural stop here (and the loos are not too bad either). If you've never... More

I recently had the great pleasure of touring Rajasthan, courtesy of a fantastic travel company, Truly India Travels. Ajay Kumar, his staff and our wonderful driver Nipu really took good care of us, and were available 24/7 to see to our needs. For a very reasonable price, Ajay organised all our hotels for the week's tour, always staying in fabulous... More

The deepest step well in the world. Built in one day according to folklore. Being maintain well by government. The only problem is no good restaurant. The nearest city is only Dausa.

I have seen a few step wells in the middle east but none compare to Abhaneri. It is grand by scale and beauty. The carvings and artistic execution of steps and landings are very special indeed. It is a wonder to behold. If anyone is ever in the Varanasi area, make this a 'must see' on your list.

Another place out of the touristic circuit, but that you must see, because is a very rare place. You can take a student guide outside the temple to know the story.

You will love the architecture of this Step well at Abhaneri. Just 1.5 hours drive from jaipur central towards Agra. A good to see place once during your trip to Jaipur .

This is certainly worth the effort visiting. It is located in a small village beside an old temple. While a lot of work needs to be done to make it more tourist friendly, the character of the place is wonderful. Though the water is no longer useable, it gives an insight into the past.

Unique. You'll never ever see anything else like it. It is not that far off the Agra/Jaipur road. Go if you have the chance!

Step wells were sources of water and, sometimes centers of theater and other performing arts. If you go at some time other than high noon, the geometric shadows on the walls of the well will keep your camera busy for a good while. Well worth the stop! Look for the public water pump just up the road and hope you... More
