This caves are called Trireshmi Caves and accessible after a 15 minute climb on nice well maintained path. We saw several people going up and down the path as part of their morning exercise routine.
Fortunately there are informational boards along the way which provide a good overview of the historical background and significance of these amazing structures.
The caves are not lit inside, so it would be helpful to carry a torch. We did not any guides. The inscriptions on the caves are fascinating. It would have been nice to have translations posted on the site.

The temples are beautiful and awe inspiring. The climb up is about 20 minutes and comfortable as the steps cut in the rocks are not too steep. As in most great Indian monuments the maintenance could be better. Always depressing to see names carved into the walls and tourist garbage-plastic bottles and wrappers strewn around. But focus on this wonderful heritage structure and you will be happy that you went there. Not to miss on the trip to Nashik.

The complete journey was very smooth, there were 230 steps and but was not difficult to climb that as it has plane steps. Bhutta is a must try and a good companion while climbing the steps. Enjoyed our trip to Pandev Leni

Pandav leni caves are a group of old Buddhist caves, in the outskirts of Nashik City. These are group of 18 caves, carved between 250 BC to 600 AD. These caves have Buddhist and Jain carvings. One has to climb stairs for 20 minutes to reach the top. It is not an activity, I would recommend for senior citizens. Also, the caves are closed at 5.30 pm. However, when I visited, they stopped selling tickets around 5 pm. So make sure you in time.

Pandav Leni was an interesting experience. The caves are centuries old and give an interesting view of the times when the Kings and merchants patronized the Buddhist monks. The intricate carvings of Buddha on the stone walls are mind boggling and truly commendable.

Good place to know about Indian history. The walk up the 200 odd stone stairs is a bit hard and may take some time to reach the top

what is the difficulty of climbing the stairs? Are they easy steps and not high so that you don't feel the climb? Approx how many steps will be there? Thank you

Is this a place suitable for senior citizens with reasonable health and traces of age induced knee hurt in steep climbs to visit? If yes, minimum how much time do we need to keep from parking the car to climbing up, buying the tickets, seeing the recommended caves nos. 3, 10 and 23 and getting back to the car?

The only way up the caves are the stairs. So probably not. But you can try it and stop as often as you need. The entrence fee will be charged at the highest point.

Photography is not a problem and is allowed.
For a healthy pregnant lady in the first two trimesters, the walk uphill should be OK with rests in between - later pregnancies is not be adviseable. All depends on the fitness - its about 500 steps or so.

Winter is ideal time to visit!
Basically, Nashik is pilgrimage place and its known for historic temples from Ramayana. If you can read some wiki/historic background before visiting, your experience will enhance. Dont expect a archaeological tour out of it. Panchavati has some good history to visit.
Secondly, Nashik is wine capital of India. You can opt for wine tour which includes factory visit, vineyard sitting, wine tasting, dinner, swiss tent accommodation & bonfire at night.(There are different types of packages available, you will need to google).
Sula, Soma, York are well known wineries and Red Grapes are MTDC's tour provider.
Pandavleni caves, Falke smarak, Coin museum, Gangapur backwaters are some places you can visit.
Food - MISAL PAAV IN THE MORNING IS MUST!!!(Krishn Vijay, Tushar, Vihaar, Ovara are known restaurants). Panchavati serves best thaali.
Thanks to Ola & Uber, now Nashik has fluent cab service. But they dont work at night(mostly).
I hope this will help, enjoy your visit to Nashik.

Half an hour in normal course, with even reset for a few minutes on the way up.
