Lush tropical and temperate fruits from every season, choice cuts of meats and fish, and hearty prepared foods, such as the renowned and enormous mortadella (bologna) sandwich, complete the market's catalog of wares, all for sale in a boisterous, welcoming atmosphere. The surrounding area can be a bit sketchy, but the sights and flavors more than make up for the journey downtown. « less

We enjoyed the market which has carries everything from fruit, vegetables, meats, desserts and all kind of delicasies. Go to the second floor where the restaurants are and have a Mortadella sandwich they are huge and 2 may eat from 1 sandwich, as they are huge and delicious. Be careful when you walk outside the market and stay on main... More

The market has a lot of shops selling fruits, vegetables, cheese, etc. But I think it's very expensive. The mortadela sandwich was very big and had a very good taste. I was astonished to the parking price in front of the market. Around R$ 45 for 2,5 hours on a Sunday. This is really too much!

Unless you plan on stocking up on some exotic groceries, there is very little to offer the tourist here. Nearby streets have lots of shops selling cheap goods of all sorts. All in all my partner and I were a bit disappointed.

If in São Paulo, take your time for a short stroll through the market, it may be like any other major market in for example european cities but it's well worth it, if you like fruits it's paradise, try everything and then buy half of the stand :) Excellent!

Wow, what a place.Loved it. It can rivalize with the best markets in the world ( very much like Barcelona's Boqueria ). The only problem is that it can be a bit challenging to find if you walk from the metro Luz. So just ask directions.

Fantastic place! Plenty of typical restaurants, spices, exotic fruits and fishes. Don´t leave Sao Paulo without visiting. A must see and try. And the streets which surround the market are really another world. So crowded by pedestrians it seems cars will be there forever. Fruits, toys, plants, chinese jewelry, etc.

I had been to Sao Paulo many times, but never visited Mercado Municipal until this time. It was great, all the fruits and veggies, flavored vinegars, meat, fish etc. We did not eat there because we had just eaten when we went, but it the food is supposed to be great. Definitely worth a visit!

We went on a Saturday afternoon before Easter Sunday and it was packed! Lower level is loaded with a large variety of dried goods, fresh meat and seafood, wine, oil, spices, you name it. Upper level featured a number of restaurants serving local fare, beers, and wines. Great way to spend an afternoon. Closed around 6pm - be sure to... More

This was a definite treat too see so many different fruits that I have never seen before - especially in the middle of winter in Illinois! They said that you could take public transportation there but I went with locals. IF you took a taxi you would need to find where to get one home. The neighborhood is run down... More

Like many of São Paulo´s “tourist” sites, the Mercado Municipal is best visiting with a local person. It is located in a crowded rundown area with broken pavements, litter-strewn streets, crumbling buildings and beggars and hustlers on every corner. Not the kind of place a tourist feels at ease in. The market itself has been tarted up in recent years... More
