The park is beautiful and very well maintained. You are STRONGLY advised to avoid it without sun light!

Only the beachfront avenue, where you can catch a glimpse of decent early 20th century architecture. The streets and avenues in the middle are best avoided, unless you're looking for a specific place of restaurant. Wait for big improvements though, as major events such as the World Cup and Olympics approach.

Full of bars (especially around Praça São Salvador), the place gets crazy during Carnival. Not so many restaurants though. Beware of the Largo do Machado neighbourhood, especially at night.
