Petropolis is worth the trip if you have a week or more in Rio. It's about 75 minutes from Rio and boasts a load of tourist attractions, some more interesting than other. I recommend Santos Dumont house and the Imperial Palace. But great attractions, that let's you learn more about two key figures in Brazil's colourful past. The palace has... More

Small and calm city, with a lot places to visit. Palaces, marvelous houses with great Portuguese, German and British influences.

A charming glimpse into Brazil's past. We happened to take the day-long tour on the hottest day Rio experienced since 1918, and found both the air and the town refreshing. Our bus stopped right outside of town at a chocolate factory which had the finest chocolate I ever tasted. Their hot chocolate was thick as syrup, and served in a... More

Beautiful city, with lots of Brazilian history. Palaces, marvelous houses with great Portuguese, German and British influences. Very nice surroundings, great mountain getaways. Many small and tasty food restaurants. Grate place to have a nice glass of whine on the fresh afternoons.

Petropolis is a very nice town to visit, representing the best of the Brazilian's imperial time, together with the Vale do Cafe. I am only sorry to see that the furnitures and objects at the Imperial Museum have been disappering along the years. Maybe ghosts???

I went to shop because apparently the factories are nearby so the prices are low. The bargains were great! Most of the shops are all along the main street

Petropolis was the perfect escape from the hustle of Rio-the winding European streets following the river, the similarly inspired pousadas of royalty gone by and all of this tucked neatly below mountains blanketed by rambling forests. Highlights included the royal families summer house which is now a museum (it feels like visiting the governors house in Pirates of the Caribbean... More

Ok, Rio is full of things to do. But if you have one extra day and interest in history this is a must go. When Brasil was a Portugal colony and after indepency, King/Emperor of Brasil needs a cold place to stay during summer. Petropolis/Imperial City was chosen. The palace and the exhibit inside has nothing to loose to european... More
