It was by far one of the best places I visited in Salvador (note that I did not like the city, a person who like may have a different opnion). You can buy all sorts of stuff that you can imagine. It has some instruments of African origin really cool. Important: negotiate!

A big indoor market (and a smaller outdoor one just in front of it), selling all the typical things you find in Bahia, but here it's all in one spot. So make this the last stop of your trip, where you go and get all your souvenirs for yourself and your friends back home.

Mercado Modelo is a large, multi-level market geared toward tourists, selling a variety of trinkets, as well as paintings, clothing, linens, toys, etc. Many of the vendors sell the same items; after a while we started to feel like "We've already seen this".
