It may be the time of year but the island is fenced off at the moment and will probably remain so as archaeological excavations continue of the ruins on the island. Also ask the locals about the easiest way to get there. The old causeway to the island is less an underwater path and more like an underwater assault course.
Just few minutes from Yalikavak by local bus, from Bodrum from main bus station to Gumusluk. A small village with the most famous fish restaurants in the area. It is really worth visiting especially evening times. Hmmmm just perfect place. A small island - Rabbit Island, if you are lucky maybe you will see some of rabbits there. The island...

we took the bus from Bodrum to Gumseluk. The ride was interesting, and the little village along the water was very picturesque, although there is not much there other than restaurants and hotels. We had some trouble finding the underwater ruins, but all at once we looked up and saw people walking on the water and knew we were there....

An ancient walk over sunken pathways, snorkle amongst scattered ruins and get turned away by a poorly constructed fence to stop island exploration. But the beachside meals make up for all the downsides.

no rabbits, due to conservation, what conservation, there was nothing happening on here! Bit of a let down, could not tell it apart from any other Turkish island
Went with a boat trip aboard the Seashell. When the Capt told us the name of the island we all look at each other is disbelief, then he shouted " Rabbits,Rabbits" and out they came about 15-20 of the cutest little rabbits. Went ashore and feed them. Well worth the trip.
You can wade out the island next to the ancient causeway but once there you will be faced by razor wire and keep out signs there to protect the archeological digs. Take your picture from shore and move on.
